Richard John Neuhaus on "The Radical Humanism of the Pro-Life Cause"

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

I better blog this up before too much time passes. My laptop has unfortunately malfunctioned so I had to take notes on an old-fashioned spiral notebook, thus the time-to-live delay of this entry.

The lecture room was pretty small but was jam-packed, with some folks standing in the back. We were lucky enough to find two empty seats in the front row. I guess folks were shy.

If you like, you can listen to the lecture (19.5 MB, 1:23:24) thanks to an audio recording my girlfriend made.

Note: These are my notes from Richard John Neuhuas’s lecture at Harvard on February 21, 2006. Parts are paraphrased or directly quoted from his words.

There is nothing more humanistic than the proposition that all humans are created equal, in the image of God. That in and of itself is preposterous were it not true, that God became human. This is radical humanism.

Darwin

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

“We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.”

Over 500 scientists have signed this Dissent from Darwin list. In my quick scan of the list, I counted at least 7 from MIT.

I’ll take this opportunity to weigh in on the entire Teaching Evolution/Intelligent Design/Creationism in Schools Debate.

Evolution is just a theory. It’s a theory with a substantial body of work behind it, but it remains an unproven theory. It isn’t gospel, but one can argue it’s the best researched theory out there.

Ave Maria School of Law

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Glad to say I received an e-mail this afternoon, and I’ve been accepted at Ave Maria School of Law :) Hehe, it’s been several years since I’ve been admitted to any school — it feels different this time around than it did back when I was applying to undergraduate college :)

I’ll have to figure out a time to visit there this semester, but I am glad of the good news :)

Blogroll

Monday, February 20th, 2006

I’ve added a Blogroll, consisting of a collection of links to my favorite weblogs. I aggregate them in one place so that I easily keep up with reading them.

If you have any suggestions for good blogs to for me to read, feel free to comment :) I’ll be gradually growing the blogroll over time. All this aggregation is made possible thanks to the elegant Friends RSS Aggregator plug-in for WordPress.

Johari Window Meme

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Here’s my Johari Window.

Give it a go.

Basically the principle is: I pick five/six words that I think describe myself, then friends pick words they think describe me (without seeing my words) and then we see what the overlap is :)

The site also lets you get your own Johari window.

And if you’re a psych major who wants to know more about Johari windows and all that jazz, Wikipedia can help you out.
