Just finished re-reading If You Really Loved Me by Jason Evert; I stumbled across the book and quickly reread it. I wrote up a brief review:
The book has 100 common questions asked about sexuality and dating. Jason Evert provides solid, detailed Catholic answers on a wide variety of topics: everything from kissing to masturbation to homosexuality. All the answers are coherent and in accordance with the unified perspective brought about by the Theology of the Body.
It’s a very solid introduction to the Catholic way of looking at love and relationships. The neat thing about the Catholic view is that it is entirely consistent. Everything makes sense together, nothing is self-contradicting as you might find it lesser exhortations. It’s definitely worth reading if you’re at all interested in learning more about purity and the Catholic perspective to love, or if you’re just interested in finding out how to get married and stay in a healthy, strong marriage. Catholic marriages that practice Natural Family Planning — which is not the rhythm method, by the way — and that pray together have a divorce rate of less than 1%. That’s a significant difference from the average divorce rate of 50%.
