[...] Back in September 2006, I defended Facebook’s mini-feed, with the tagline of “If you aren’t comfortable now, you shouldn’t have been comfortable before.” My logic there was that the mini-feed didn’t expose any information that wasn’t available before, it just made it far more accessible. I did find it bad marketing on Facebook’s part to launch it without even so much as an opt-out option available, but I figured they’d learn from that mistake in the future. Finally, I found it a touch ironic that all the “Stop the New Facebook” groups grew virally in large part thanks to the very mini-feed they were railing against. In the end, Facebook made it possible to opt-out and control what was posted in the mini-feed, restoring the option to maintain the security-through-obscurity regime that many of its users had accustomed themselves to.
I, too, hope that this movie does justice to the subject matter. It at least seems to be approached with the reverence it deserves, rather than spite and satire. Looking forward to it!

Is the violence by Muslims against Churches that is now happening across the world part of "defending themselves with the sword?" To me it seems much more as spreading the faith by the sword: "don't say anything about Islam that we don't agree with or we will kill you." One can interpret the Koran to advocate violence, just as one can interpret the Bible to advocate violence. This is an incorrect interpretation: that's the Pope's point. Unfortunately many Muslims around the world are trapped in the fallacy of this incorrect interpretation of Islam and are using it as grounds to propagate violence.

That was the entire point of the Pope's quote: spreading a religion by violence is evil and inhuman.

See http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3304545,00.html for details on the violence against Churches.
